Early August is the skywatcher’s time for viewing the Perseids meteor shower. Might as well use that as an excuse to ride in one of Quebec’s most exquisite motorcycle area.
The trip starts on August 13th. I leave Sainte-Martine and trace my way through Howick, Hemmingford, Venise en Quebec and Bedford. While in Bedford, I stop for coffee and a bite at my favorite spot there, The Café Rouge. Afterward, I ride through Dunham and Cowansville, where I make another stop to visit my friend and private wine importer, Michel of Actuel Réalisations.
After pleasantries, I leave to the next points along my planned trip: Knowlton, Magog, Ayer’s Cliff, Coaticook, Cookshire-Eaton, and my final destination, La Patrie, where I’ll spend the night at Lise Pratte and Michel Poirier’s wonderful Domaine Nature L&M, a fine AirBNB in a magnifient location nearMont Mégantic. I watched the Milky Way and shooting stars there.
Morning of August 14th, I’m still running my body with the work beat clock. Wide awake at 4 a.m., I leave L & M and go down a pitch black 212 to Cookshire-Eaton. Then, it’s Lennoxville, Sherbrooke, and sunrise around Saint-Denis-de Brompton. I keep riding to Racine, Lawrenceville, Warden, Granby and Ange-Gardien, after which it’s Farnham, Mont Saint-Grégoire, Saint-Jean sur Richelieu and Laprairie, where I leave the small roads to do a short ride on the 30 and the 138 to get back home.
Overall, two amazing days with great weather, great riding everywhere (but for a short damaged section between Dunham and Cowansville) and some very nice scenery.
It’s a great start for a week’s vacation!
